It's not all in your head

I thought I was losing it. I was only 42 years old, why was I in so much pain all the time? Especially first thing in the morning. Why am I waking up in so much pain? It took my orthopedic surgeon to stop scratching her head on why I still had pain in my repaired ankle 2 years after surgery. She sent me to a rheumatologist thinking we needed to look at the whole picture. He immediately diagnosed me with Hypermobility syndrome, flat feet and FIBROMYALGIA. I know now, that it is not all in my head.

Found a Great Doctor

I found a great FM doctor in Portland, OR. He is a Rheumatologist whose practice is 90% FM patients. I have been seeing this doctor for 5 years. I have been part of his group study for 5 years now. He put me on Cymbalta which has made my pain less in the evening. I have to take it within 24 of my last dosage or I can feel the pain.

It took awhile...

... but my mother's rheumatologist diagnosed me. She has fibro and he helps her! She is quite satisfied. I live in a different city. I went to the so-called "expert" but he was so busy, he couldn't give individualized attention. I went to his colleague and had a rough time because of his colleague's personality issues (I do mean ISSUES). I have a fantastic cognitive-behavioral psychologist who helped me deal with that guy (I think she was relieved when I said it wasn't worth it any longer). I have a new doctor, saw him once and was blown away by how knowledgeable and professional he was. At the first visit, he didn't hesitate to let me try a new medicine that has helped me significantly: Ultram. Thank goodness for this doctor. The best part of it is I can communicate with him so easily because he genuinely seems interested. For those of you having a hard time, my heart goes out to you. I'd been there before and it's so hard and so unfair... Don't give up!
