Definition:

A retrovirus is a type of virus that inserts its DNA into your cell's genetic makeup. Preliminary research has linked one retrovirus, called XMRV, to chronic fatigue syndrome.

Only three retroviruses have been identified in humans. The best-known retrovirus is HIV, which can cause AIDS.
