Definition:

Monogenic is a term used to describe a genetic trait that is controlled by a single gene. Hereditary illnesses that are caused by a single gene are referred to as monogenic disorders or monogenic diseases.

Illnesses (or other traits) that are caused by multiple genes are called polygenic. Research suggests that fibromyalgia may be either a polygenic disorder or one that involves a genetic predisposition.
