Re-evaluate your priorities.
There is no question that an illness like CFS has a drastic impact on your lifestyle. Where you were once energetic and involved in many activities, now you struggle to get through each day. Once simple tasks may now be major chores. It is easy to become frustrated, discouraged and depressed as you look at all the things you should be doing but cant. When you begin to feel overwhelmed, it is time to re-evaluate your priorities.
Take some time to sit down and make a list of everything you have to do, feel you need to do, or think you should do. Accept the fact that when you were healthy you may have been able to handle everything, but now some things are going to have to change if you are going to have any quality of life.
Evaluate every item on your list by asking yourself four questions:
- Is it truly important to me?
- Is it a necessity?
- Am I doing this because I think I should or someone else thinks I should?
- Can someone else help me or do this for me?
The only items that should remain on your list are those that are truly important to you or are a necessity.
- Research your illness.
- Take charge of your own healthcare.
- Develop your own exercise and nutrition plan.
- Re-evaluate your priorities.
- Take one day at a time.
- Keep a positive attitude.
- Laugh.
