No one knows your body better or is more interested in your health than you. Learn all you can about your illness and possible treatment options. The more educated you are, the more accurately you will be able to communicate with your doctor so that together you can find the best treatment plan for you.
Where to find information on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS):
- Check with your local library for books and publications about CFS.
- If you can afford it, subscribe to publications that report on the latest research related to your illness.
- The Internet is a valuable tool for gathering information. Just be sure that any website you use as a resource is reputable and that their information is current.
- Non-profit patient advocacy organizations usually offer a lot of good, current information. And they often offer a free newsletter via e-mail.
- Local support groups frequently have handouts and packets of information available as well as being a good source of support and encouragement.
- Research your illness.
- Take charge of your own healthcare.
- Develop your own exercise and nutrition plan.
- Re-evaluate your priorities.
- Take one day at a time.
- Keep a positive attitude.
