This summer chronic fatigue syndrome seems to be getting some much-deserved national attention. Two top national magazines are featuring articles that both raise awareness and educate the public about this often-misunderstood illness. Two additional popular national magazines are carrying full-page ads about CFS.
"Ms." magazine: The summer issue features an article entitled, Wake-Up Call, by Nancy Klimas, MD, founding editor of the Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Dr. Klimas discusses recent discoveries relating to possible links between CFS and genetic mutations involving the immune system, brain and endocrine regulation.
"Oprah" magazine: Living with CFS will be the focus of a feature article in the September issue (available August 15). Interviewees include: Laura Hillenbrand, author of Seabiscuit and CFS patient, Kim McCleary, CFIDS Association President, and Suzanne Vernon, PhD, CDC Research Microbiologist.
"Better Homes and Gardens" and "Ladies Home Journal": The August issues of these magazines carried full-page CFS Public Awareness Campaign ads.
