Definition: Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, derived from tryptophan, that is involved in sleep (along with melatonin, depression, memory and other neurological processes. People with fibromyalgia may have abnormally low serotonin levels, while studies are split as to whether levels are abnormally high or abnormally low in chronic fatigue syndrome sufferers.
