Menstruation Stories from Women with Fibromyalgia

By November 12, 2012

Follow me on:

Fibromyalgia is often accompanied by changes to your menstrual cycle. When things become irregular, it's hard to know if it's "normal."

To help you gauge whether what you're going through is typical of fibromyalgia, I've compiled some personal stories about periods. You can see them here:

You can learn more about women's health issues and fibromyalgia here: Menstruation, Menopause & Pregnancy.

What menstrual or other women's issues have you developed along with fibromyalgia? Have you found effective treatment/managment for them? Leave your comments below!

My fibro flares up are HORRIBLE about week before my period. Pain, fatigue, fog – all the fun stuff x 10. Once I start to bleed, tho, it’s like I never even heard of fibro…at least for a couple of days.

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. I’ve had fibromyalgia for six years. About a year ago my daughter (who is now 28) developed interstitial cystitis (chronic inflammation of the bladder wall). She had some other problems which makes me think she’s heading down the fibromyalgia path. Not good.

Here’s the thing. She had a tubal ligation several months ago and ever since then she’s had very heavy periods, mood swings and very painful cramps (horrible ones, like she’s giving birth). The only thing her doctor would do for her is give her narcotics. She consulted Dr. Google and apparently there is something called Post Ligation Syndrome.

Have you ever heard of Post Ligation Syndrome? Is it related to fibromyalgia? Is there really nothing she can do about it except get a hysterectomy? That seems a really harsh way to deal with it and she’s only 28.

Has your daughter been checked for endometriosis? Her story reminds of my own awful periods before I had laser treatment for that condition , and the blessed relief of menopause.
