Knowledge is power, and that goes double when you have a chronic illness few doctors know how to treat. When you have chronic fatigue syndrome, you have to do a lot of research in order to understand what's going on in your body and make decisions about treatment and management. There's a lot to learn, and to help you wade through the medical jargon, I went through my chronic fatigue syndrome glossary and picked out some of the most important terms:
- Autoantibodies
- Central Sensitization
- Cortisol
- Cytokines
- Dopamine
- Enterovirus
- Epstein-Barr Virus
- HPA Axis
- HHV-6
- Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Encephalopathy
- NK Cells
- Post-Exertional Malaise
- RNase L
- Serotonin
- T Cells

Great post! I’m never sure if I should be proud of myself that I’ve become so familiar those terms over the last ten years of being ill or depressed that an historian of American and Middle East religious history is so conversant with the intricacies of the immune system. And the central nervous system. And the endocrine system. And the cardiovascular system… Sigh.
give yourself a pat on the back if you can remember any of them, my brain fog is such that I can hardly remember any of them and I used to be a nurse!!!
