Poll: Strange Symptoms of Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I wrote recently about some of the strange symptoms of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome -- the ones that make us say, "I thought I was the only one." A reader named Cheryl said it would make a great poll. I think she's right, so here it is. Cheryl, thanks for the suggestion!

You can select as many as you want on this one, so tell us what strange symptoms you get. Do you get others that just seem bizarre? What are they? How have you learned to deal with some of your strange symptoms? Leave your comments below!

(1) Bridget says:

My fibro started with what I thought were ‘’strange” symptoms but have since learned they are not so unusual.

My ‘’symptoms” started in May of this year with:
• while asleep, my leg ‘’shot out” violently and kicked the lamp and wooden angel statuette off my bedside table; both went to the floor-the angel was broken and the lamp was damaged;
• the next night, the same thing happened but my leg kicked a different, more stable table and it hurt my foot but nothing on the table;
• then my daughter lightly touched my thigh and I screamed because my skin hurt sooo badly;
• there have been many symptoms since then but the worst was when it felt like I had knives stuck in the left side of my ribcage… I didn’t have a diagnosis yet so could do nothing to relieve the pain (I’m allergic to most OTC pain relievers…) this continued for 2 days and I got NO relief, just tears and crying and getting angry!

I was finally given a firm diagnosis just last Tuesday so I am relieved to say, if I feel some pain coming on, I know have something to alleviate it.

Not sure if those are considered ‘’strange” symptoms but just thought I’d put my 2 cents in!! :)

Celery gives me instant brain fog. Vitiman D, thyroid supplement(even though I have low), calcium and magnesium supplements, and more things that are otherwise good for the body, worsens my hair fallout.

I am feeling as though I somehow swallowed a strange mushroom. Am going off all ‘this should help’ drugs. I seem to have become sensitised to any drug prescribed and they make me feel really wierd – unpleasantly so. It takes ages for all the symptoms to slip away, or mostly, as the case may be. But what I am finding really odd is the degree to how much, overcast or raining weather really gives me a major downer. I have not left the house in weeks, I talk to almost no one. My choice, or rather that of the damned conditon. I do attend occasional appointments, they can be considered an outing. Do others get this irritation at pointless frustration which does not appear to have light at the end of an endless and dark tunnel? Rave Rave on! Really, my point being about the weather and the adverse affect it has on me personally.

YES! “irritation at pointless frustration which does not appear to have light at the end of an endless dark tunnel…” I thought it was just me. M friend thinks I lose my temper all the time for no reason. I’m just so FRUSTRATED. Thank you, Marie!

This symptom may not be so strange, but it troubles me. Sometimes, my skin, especially face, will seem to be on fire. For example, two hours ago I was so weak I took an echinacea tablet and, within an hour, my face started to feel burning hot. Echinacea is supposed to stimulate the immune system. I often get this experience on a late winter day, particularly after taking Vitamin D. Who else has had this symptom?

The symptoms probably depend on the distribution of mas cells in the body.
