XMRV NEWSBRIEF: The FDA and NIH's much-awaited paper on XMRV and chronic fatigue syndrome will reportedly be published soon, according to CFS Central blogger and investigative journalist Mindy Kitei. She quotes the editor of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences as saying that the study has gone to press.
Word leaked out in June that this paper allegedly confirms the Whittemore Peterson Institute findings that the retrovirus is linked to a majority of chronic fatigue syndrome cases. (Read more about that here.) It was held for publication when a CDC study had contradictory findings. The CDC paper was published more than a month ago.

Now there is a new Dutch negative study, this time on XMRV and HIV-1. One should know that FeLV in cats is the counterpart of XMRV in humans, and that FIV in cats is the counterpart of HIV-1 in humans. What is true for animals is in most cases also true for humans. And what do we see in cats ? In cats the simultaneous presence of both FIV and FeLV in the same cat individuals is a frequent finding. What does the new Dutch study say however ? It says that they could not find XMRV in patients with HIV-1. What do we have to think about that ? We should be highly suspicious about these results, because do these scientists have in their possession the right knowledge and equipment just in order to find what they are looking for ? The right answer to this question is most probably highly negative. So more studies are necessary in this particular area, and what we should expect is that XMRV is at least as highly present in HIV-1 patients as in the general population, and chances are very high that XMRV is quite common in HIV-1 patients, and perhaps even very common. CFS/ME might very well be a side-effect of the spread of AIDS in the eighties.
Thank you for keeping us up to date. It seems like my world has been revolving around hope and despair ever since the news on XMRV broke last fall. I’ll be a little scared to look at the report. Was there any internal pressure to modify the report? Will we get an answer to the riddle of CFS or is XMRV just a red herring.
Dr. Holder, is that you? We miss you.
People with HIV-1 will acquire AIDS if they remain medically untreated, and what science is about to find out is whether XMRV is an essential contributing factor in people with HIV-1 dying from AIDS. XMRV may be just one retrovirus too much in your system, when you already have HIV-1. That’s why it is so important that these “so-called” negative-study scientists stop playing around with the health of millions of people around the globe. If they continue to do so they should be put in prison for doing so. They are even worse for the world’s economy than a guy called Madoff.
I just came across an interesting book. Unfortunately I have not had the time to read it yet but I find it interesting enough to share it in this forum as soon as possible. Maybe some other people have read it already and have an opinion:
Martin L. Pall “Explaining ‘Unexplained Diseases’ “.
“Dr. Judy Mikovits, one of the lead researchers with the Whittemore Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease in Reno, said the FDA’s review of their findings is scheduled to be published in September.”

I can’t believe that even a laymen could understand that if HIV–human retro virus leads to exerbation of AIDS …why can’t people see that XMRV– human retro virus can lead to AIDS light….or ME/ CFIDS…? Don’t any of you have blood work that shows latent viral infections past or present.?.( AIDSLight) Don’t any of you have CD4 CD3 CD56 Function and Ratio off balance to TCD8 suppressor cells?……(AIDSLight) This is my history for 50 some years…XMRV is a valid explanation for these AIDS-light titers.. Compared to HIV this is not life threatening. It just distroys quality of life and one’s mental well being….not knowing…doctors not knowing… Geeeeeessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! Hold on to your hope and faith in the slow medical system!! It is to be soon!! Thanks to the die hard medical associates that believe we have a real disease! Nila
The FDA/NIH XMRV CFS/ME Study Results To Be Released Today, Monday, August 23, 3:01 p.m. EDT
XMRV is a Xenotropic MuLV-related retrovirus with AIDS-like effects
William,
While we’ll probably never know what conversations went on behind the scenes, the published paper does seem to be in line with the information that came out in June. If it had contradicted Dr. Alter’s presentation, I can’t even imagine the amount of backlash government agencies would be getting!

Hi Adrienne. I believe this point marks a new beginning in our understanding of CFS and how we treat and prevent this illness. I was 32 when I first presented symptoms. It took me 6 years to accept CFS, I have been less hopeful every day since. After 16 years I have hope again. Even if I’m 60 before there is an effective way to manage this illness – I will be reborn. I’m looking forward to playing outside again and making new friends. Thank you for your efforts. William.
