NEWSBRIEF: The FDA has approved a new opioid patch for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain. It's called the Butrans Transdermal System, and it delivers medication continuously for a full week.
The Butrans patch is not specifically approved for fibromyalgia. It may not be a good option for those with fibromyalgia pain that frequently shifts from place to place. However, it may be an option for those who have severe localized pain from either fibromyalgia, trauma, or another medical condition.

I am having good results with the lidoderm patch that contains lidocaine. i went through a pain clinic and found out about this rx patch there. there are no fogggy brain effects with this patch.
I’ve been taking Buprenorphine for Fibromyalgia/ME pain for many years. I started on the sublingual tablets but then my pain specialist suggested I try the BuTrans patches so I get a continuous dose over the 7 days.
The patches don’t need to be situated in the place where it hurts (unlike local aneasthetic patches like Lidocaine ones etc) and can be used for widespread/moving pain. I was on them for about 6 months but they made my skin very sore and I soon ran out of large enough patches of nonpainful skin to accomodate them, plus the doses I required needed 2 large patches a time.
That was a few years ago but now I take 700mg Gabapentin 3x daily and take Burprenorphine Sublingual (Temgesic) for breakthrough pain.
My Dr’s Colleque, his wife just prescribed this, but I’m a reluctant Charlie, “Mad, actually, for a couple of reasons. 1. I don’t believe in being switching to a different dr, colleque or not, ‘a husband and wife team actually, but I don’t care! Whenever I’ve been switched extreme results were found such as a blood clot found in my lung. Idiot other dr. didn’t have a clue! I have fybramyagia and the doc just switched me, to it or its in unison with it my concern is it being sugar water i don’t fake illness or pain and i’m not willing to spend money on sugar!
