NEWSBRIEF: An international XMRV workshop is planned for September 7-8 in Bethesda, MD. XMRV is a gamma retrovirus that preliminary studies have linked to chronic fatigue syndrome and prostate cancer. Medical education company Virology Education announced the event on its website.

The announcement says the conference is intended to gather a group of scientists, physicians and epidemiologists to teach, learn and discuss multiple aspects of XMRV, including effects of the virus, how it's transmitted, the effectiveness of antiretroviral drugs, current controversies and the direction of future research.

here we go again! let us now go back to judy when she said this retro is for life. if this is true then why are a lot of people completely recovered from this illness. it makes no sense at all that a retro is involved in this, wait a minute here comes byron hyde crawling around the corner with an entero virus theory. the problem with this illness is this. their are to many charlatans who claim to be world class researchers and cannot get out of bed themselves. they live off of sick people by hiding behind their foundations. their are to many of them who are not telling the truth and do not have the strength to go to work. anyone who invests their money in research should ask this question first to any researcher and that is this! do you have fibro or cfs and get that in writing before wasting your money on these charlatans. there are a lot of them out there and i can name a lot of these clowns who are nothing but charlatans who want to suck you for your money and pay their own bills with it. do not be fools and think very seriously about gail kansky who will very wisely put 100% of your money into very serious world renowned research. do not feel lost to these charlatans who have not a clue about cfs. a total cfs circus. like colorful clowns driving around in their small cars with your money. be wise and you will all see very soon some very serious answers. gods blesses to all of you and your loved ones… aidan walsh southampton u.k.

From Your Guide: In response to “let us now go back to judy when she said this retro is for life. if this is true then why are a lot of people completely recovered from this illness. it makes no sense at all that a retro is involved in this….” If XMRV is involved, it’s clearly not causing illness in everyone who has it. It could be that with proper treatment the immune system can get strong enough to keep the retrovirus in check. Also, even the WPI’s XMRV research didn’t turn up the retrovirus in 100% of cases. It’s likely that ME/CFS is caused by a variety of different things, which is what makes each case unique and confounds research and treatment efforts. ~Adrienne

The above comment emphasizes the need to identify a cause and have a reliable diagnostic test. I remain unconvinced that the people who are claimed “full recovery” from CFS ever had it in the first place.

Several noted CFS clinicians and researchers, including Dr. Daniel Peterson, have stated that NONE of their CFS patients have recovered.
