Research Brief
People with chronic fatigue syndrome may have impaired transmission of signals between nerves and muscles, according to a study recently published in the International Journal of Immunopathololgy and Pharmacology.
Researchers also discovered that certain genes were expressed differently in chronic fatigue syndrome patients. These genes dealt with:
- Mitochondrial function
- Oxidative balance
- Energy production
- Muscle and fiber irregularities
Researchers believe these processes may be involved in or responsible for the muscle symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome.
