Helping Each Other With Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Thursday August 27, 2009

Since our doctors frequently don't understand what we're going through, it's up to us to educate ourselves and each other about how to manage and live with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Here's a recent Readers Respond comment that really illustrates that point:

"I've recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and feel a bit overwhelmed right now. I have had problems for years but always blamed them on my bad back. I find that I feel very emotional and don't want to talk about it even with my friends. Sometimes the chronic fatigue is hard to explain, simple things don't get done and it's embarrassing to admit that even a minor phone call can be overwhelming. But I am learning to pace myself and get plenty of rest . . . . Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, I need all the advice I can get."

So please keep your comments coming -- you never know who they'll help at a critical moment!

Hi honey,

Well we have a similar goal with blogging and should
possibly link up some time. I am now writing the articles for mine over at blogger. I chose Fibromyalgia Helps and want to give hope and comfort. I am a 16+ year fibro vet and have experienced many things in trying to cope and all.
The pacing ourselves is really key. Take life on your own terms. Perhaps another blog will be the fibromyalgia lifestyle that we can laugh about together. Sincerely, Adelia

Hi sweetheart! You’ll be fine, I promise! I was diagnosed 3 years ago and I know how you feel! It’s a nightmare at times, but the reality is that the more active you are, the better you’ll feel spiritually and eventually physically because your pain tolerance will increase. Pace yourself so you’re not totally down for the count in the short run and meditate/relax often (I use a CD). Take time everyday to remind yourself of how strong you are, and that you can still enjoy life and figure out what you CAN do. My email is thedanerbeans@yahoo.com if you wanna talk more!
