Drug Profiles for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
I wanted to call your attention to something new I'm working on: drug profiles. I published several supplement profiles awhile back and you responded so strongly to them that I started publishing drug-related information in the same format. I'm just getting started, so expect to see a lot more down the road (for both drugs and supplements).
Drug profiles I've published so far are:
- Ampligen for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN) for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Lyrica for Fibromyalgia
- Savella for Fibromyalgia
- Sodium Oxybate (Xyrem) for Fibromyalgia
In these, you'll find information on how these drugs work, what research shows about them, typical dosages, side effects and more.
Let me know what drugs or supplements you'd like to see profiled and I'll move them to the top of the list!

What about Methadone in conjuction with Oxycodone.
Since Methadone blocks opiod action , I don’t know if this makes sense.
I take 10 mg. of Oxy with 10mg of methodone 2 to 4 times a day.
I this self defeating?
Might I be better off with more of one.
Judy
Judy,
Definitely talk to your doctor or pharmacist about that drug combination. It’s listed as a possible negative drug interaction here:
Methadone (Click on the Interactions tab.)
I have been using methadone for about 4 years, and want desperately to stop! How can I without going through withdraw? I currently go to a clinic, and I am afraid of being off of it. Is there an alternative?
Aleesha,
Please talk to your doctor about this. He or she should be able to help you get off of the drug and find alternatives.
I would like to see Ultram (tramadol) profiled.
Also, non-drug options would be interesting to read about. A lot of us have low back pain. Would a tens unit be beneficial or would it ramp up the pain signals?
I am currently taking 30mg of oxycodone every 4 hrs because suffer from degenerative disk disease. I have 3 buldging disks and 3 herniated disks so I live in pain. The meds allow me to function. My question is do you know of any fda thoughts of taking this drug off the mkt? From what I’ve read the fda is concerned with acedaminofen od not the narcotic part. Am I correct in this assumption? Thanks for reading.
Fred,
You’re correct — in this particular proposal, the FDA is concerned about acetaminophen and not narcotics. However, the FDA is also reviewing narcotic pain relievers, including oxycodone, in the same way that it’s reviewing acetaminophen products. Here’s more information for you:
