Would Fewer Calories Improve Memory in Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Wednesday January 28, 2009

NEWSBRIEF: A recently published study suggests that eating a low-calorie diet can improve memory in older people. With earlier research showing gray-matter loss, similar to that in aging, in the brains of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome patients, this finding could be relevant to people with these conditions.

In this latest study, researchers concluded that caloric restrictions improved the body's use of insulin, lowered inflammatory activity, may help preserve the brain's ability to form new connections, and appears to stimulate certain brain pathways.

Researchers say these findings could lead to methods of preserving cognitive function into old age.
