Fibromyalgia Diagnosis: Is Sleep the Key?
NEWSBRIEF: New research suggest doctors may be able to diagnose fibromyalgia (FMS) by taking measurements while you sleep.
In a new study published in the journal Sleep Medicine, researchers used remote sensors, signal process and computer software to see whether sleep problems correlated with and could predict pain levels in people with FMS. They confirmed what many already believed - that more sleep disruption equals more pain. The difference this time is that they have objective sleep measurements.
They also say they've developed an automated method of assessing the severity of sleep-disordered breathing that's much simpler than methods typically used during sleep studies.
